Alternative Therapies
The term ‘disease’ has been around for centuries. It is defined as ‘a deviation from normal health’. Disease is usually associated with pain, weakness, loss of function and/or deformity. However, this definition is too general to be useful in understanding disease. In fact, there are many diseases that do not cause any pain or loss of function. Therefore, a more precise definition of disease is required.
A disease is an abnormal condition of the body that may be due to a number of factors such as genetic predisposition, exposure to toxins, poor nutrition, infections and stress. A disease may also be caused by certain types of lifestyle, which include smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, over-indulgence in food and drugs, etc. The human body has a very complex mechanism to protect itself against these various factors. However, if any of these factors are present in excess, it can lead to disease.
In recent times, modern medicine has advanced considerably. Nowadays, most diseases can be cured or at least treated. However, the treatment of some diseases requires a great deal of time and money. For example, cancer takes years to develop, and therefore, the treatment is long and costly. Furthermore, the cure rate is low because the disease has already developed into a full-blown stage. This is where alternative therapies come in. These are methods that are used to treat diseases without the use of medicines. Some of the most common alternative therapies include acupuncture, herbal medicine, homeopathy, aromatherapy, yoga, meditation, and naturopathy.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese technique that uses needles to stimulate specific points on the body to relieve pain. Acupuncture has been used successfully to treat many diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, depression, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and many others. Herbal medicine is another alternative therapy that uses herbs to treat diseases. Herbs are plants that have medicinal properties. Herbal medicine can be administered orally or applied externally. Homeopathy is a method of healing that uses extremely dilute solutions of natural substances. Homeopathy treats a disease by inducing a response in the body that helps it fight off the disease. Homeopathic remedies can be used to treat many diseases. Aromatherapy is a form of alternative therapy that uses aromatic oils to treat different diseases. These oils have been known to help relieve depression, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, and many other conditions. Yoga is a form of alternative therapy based on physical and mental exercises that are designed to strengthen the body and mind. Meditation is a form of alternative therapy in which one learns to control their thoughts and emotions through deep breathing and concentration. Naturopathy is an alternative therapy that involves the use of natural foods and supplements to treat diseases.
